Olivia Newton-Bubs

I bought Robert some new shorts that look delightfully similar to the running/workout shorts popular in the 70's.  Combine them with the 80 degree weather we are experiencing here in the middle of March, it seemed like the perfect time to "get in shape." See him below as he works his little rear for every penny spent on those shorts.

Dressed and ready to go....

Stretch that leg.

Rest.

Stretch those arms.

And rest.

The big work out!  Stand Bubby, stand!!!

The dismount....

Success! Celebrating with a clap.

Cooling down on Momi's leg.  What a workout!

Ear Infection

Robert got sent home from day care today with a fever.  I was able to get him into a doctor's appointment and found out he has a double ear infection.  Robert had his first ear infection 2 1/2 months ago, but it was mild and only in one ear.  This time it's in both ears and is much more severe.  I wish I could explain to him what's wrong and how we're fixing it.  I wish he could understand that I'm doing everything I can to make him feel better.
According to my Mom, neither my brother or I had had ear infections growing up.  Pat and all of his brothers, on the other hand, had multiple infections.  I can only assume Robert is going to take after his father in this area...

Baby Food

Graham crackers, raspberries and string cheese

Tuna steak with mango chutney

 Split pea soup.

 And cake.

Bubby loves to eat.  He's a brave eater.  He'll try anything.  Robert has had an eye on "adult" food since he was two months old.  He was sucking on pizza and smoothies before it's recomended babies eat rice cereal.  Some may think we're bad parents for bawlking the process, but if he wants it and it doesn't hurt him....why not.  It's not like we only feed him ice cream and french fries.  He loves berries, cheese, fish, and water.  That boy cannot get enough water.

Side note: February has came and went with no Spruce Deuce in sight...  We're not "actively trying," but we're not trying not to.  We'll see what March brings.

Rock the Cradle

We took Robert to Rock the Cradle put on by the Current at the MIA and Childrens' Theatre.  It was fun, but we think Robert will enjoy it more in the years to come.
 Feeling up the indoor garden.
Getting to know the maraca at the instrument petting zoo.
"Hey there girl in the pink dress, check out this beat!"
Bubby immersing himself in the art.
 Mom and Minneapolis.
 Dad and a car indoors.
Brr. Moving from one building to the other.
Grooving at the Kiddie Disco.

Alle meine entlein schwimmen im see

Pat and I took Bubby swimming for the first time.  He loves bath time, so I figured he'd love swimming.  At first I thought I had made a poor assumption.  When I sat him in the cold kiddie pool he squeezed my arm so hard his fingers turned white.  He looked around with intense concentration and concern.  Once we moved over to the big pool (which was much warmer) and started moving around, he literally and figuratively warmed up to the idea of swimming.  He was laughing and kicking.  It was a success!  I can't wait until summer, when we can bring him to the beach.  The warmth.  The sand.  The sunshine.  Please summer, come soon!

Crawling and beyond...

Robert just started crawling.  Really crawling.  He has been scooting around (backwards) for a little while, but he just started moving forward with all four limbs and with purpose.  He sees something he wants and gets it.  He's also able to pull himself up, with a little help.  He is growing so strong.

First fall

Sometimes you expect too much from people.  You expect your husband to know what you want for your birthday.  You expect your boss to give you credit for something you did without being asked.  You expect a 6 1/2 month old to stay put and understand gravity and the detremental impacts of it.  You expect that you will be the perfect parent the first go at it.
Robert fell three feet headfirst on to linoleum.  I saw it all in slow motion.  My heart broke as I saw his face change from interest to shock to fear and pain.  It was all my fault.  I guess this is the first of many parenting moments that I wish I could take back.
He was so brave.  After he cried and slept it off, I really broke down and started bawling.  He looked at with concern and hugged my face with his tiny hands.
 The night of the fall.
 A couple days later.
About a week after the fall.

Wompa Comes to Visit

My dad came to visit us from Michigan this week-end. This is only the third time he and Robert have met. We've been so lucky to have most of our family so close. I sometimes take it for granted and forget how much my dad is missing out on. Hopefully we can make their time together all about quality not quantity.
We took at trip to the Como Conservatory after Bubs' physical therapy appointment.  He has torticolois.  It's mild as we've been aware of his condition since he was born but didn't have a diagnosis to go with it.  We've been correcting his tilt with rolled up blankets and with the ways that we hold him.  We just recently were able to put a name with the odd way he held his head.  Hopefully with our daily actions and his physical therapy his neck will grow stronger and straighter.
